Vortex Newsletter, January 2012
Spring is just around the corner. We can answer questions about new equipment, materials that can be applied using the Vortex Spreader, rates, spreader configuration and much more.

Equipment Update #1
The Vortex SPC Has New Components
The bulkhead that holds the open/close valve on the Vortex SPC is now flush with the bottom of material hopper. This change eliminates material from building up around the ring on the older configuration. The Vortex SPC has a new manifold protection guard, this eliminates bumping the manifold while using the spreader and while in transit.
These updates came from customer feedback, if you have suggestions please call or e-mail. We strive to make the best spreader on the market.
Equipment Update #2
All Vortex Spreaders are California Engine Compliant
California customers can take advantage of the Material and Labor Savings that the Vortex Spreaders provide. All units are using California compliant blowers.

Vortex Tech Tip
Lubricate the Vortex TR, SPX and SPC Valve and the Vortex SPC Cable
Using the correct lubricant is a must.
After the spreader has been cleaned, the unit is now ready to be lubricated. The cable on the Vortex SPC should move smoothly. The open/close valve plate on all units should function smoothly and move fully open and closed.
Do not use any spray with petroleum distillates, this will cause the granular material to build up on the valve components.
We recommend:
- Dupont Teflon Multi-Use 11oz aerosol can
- Dupont Teflon Non-Stick Dry Film Liquid 4oz bottle
- Dupont Teflon Silicone Lubricant 4oz bottle
The materials listed above are available at Lowe's. Similar products are available from other vendors.

Lubricate the SPC Cable as pictured.

Lubricate the TR, SPX and SPC valve- apply to the valve plate
that is used to start and stop the material flow.
Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions regarding operation of the Vortex Spreaders.

Vortex Tech Tip: Clean your machine.
One of the most important maintenance items when using the Vortex Spreader is cleaning the unit after use.
- Get any left over material out of the hopper.
- Shop vac the dust out of the bottom of the hopper.
- Lay the hose on the ground, run the engine to full speed, add a small amount of liquid soap in the hopper and run water inside the hopper while opening and closing the valve. This will clean the valve plates, while the soap and water clean inside the manifold.
- Wash the entire unit.
- Let the engine run for a few minutes to get any water out of the manifold and hose.
- Dry the inside of the hopper and the exterior of the machine.
- If the valve (and cable on the SPC) needs lubrication; use only a dry spray PTFE (Teflon) material. Do not use any spray with petroleum distillates, this will cause the granular material to build up on the valve components.
